Ommel is with more than 500 inhabitants the biggest village on Ærø.
From 1970 Ommel, together with Kragnæs and the remainder of the parish were joined with Marstal municipality. Even though the village is small it may be difficult to know one's way around because streets and lanes wind in all directions. Formerly Ommel had several shops and a small industry. The village lies at the beginning of the peninsular that stretches out to Ommelshoved. There is a harbour on both sides of the town, and that is Kleven and Strandbyen.
The village Kragnæs is partly located along the old beach from before Noret (the cove) was reclaimed. The farm "Færgegården" indicates about this as there years ago was a ferry from here to Lille Rise. The village consists mainly of small farms but earlier there were also some shops and an inn.
