Marstal is a lively and active community being characterised by shipping more than any other town in Denmark. More than 50 cargo ships today have Marstal as their port of registry.
The shipyards are situated side by side along the harbour
and they can be seen "close up". The harbour is the life nerve of the town and it is situated behind the more than one kilometre long stone - breakwater.
Streets and alleys wind up from the harbour and in the southern part of the town you can go exploring in the many small "snorrer" which are narrow paths leading along the back gardens of the houses. A "snorre" is a narrow footpath leading behind or between the houses. From Marstal there is a ferry
route to Langeland.
